At Ingliston Hotel & Country club, we’re proud to work closely with Sheila Galvin Photography. We caught up with Sheila recently to find out a bit more about being a wedding photographer at Ingliston.
What are your key responsibilities when photographing a wedding?
My main responsibility is to produce fantastic images from all aspects of the day. I meet or speak with the couple beforehand and we discuss the finer details of their wedding i.e. who’s who, timings, etc, just so that no-one’s forgotten in the couple’s important collection of photographs. Timings are very important to me on a wedding day, and sticking closely to allotted timescales is something that I endeavour to do. I work with Ingliston to ensure that the agreed timings are in place and whether there’s a need to juggle the day around a little (ceremony over-running, rain interrupting the formal photograph time slots, etc.) I keep the wedding co-ordinator informed to ensure that things run smoothly. On such a momentous day for the couple and their close family, in order to help keep stress levels down, I’m always watching for anything I can do to help out. The more relaxed my wedding party is the better the photographs.
Being with the bride while she gets ready for her wedding is a good opportunity to take detailed shots of her shoes, freshly delivered flowers, the dress and all other important keepsakes she may have gathered for her wedding day. I love to take photographs of the special moments exchanged and capture the atmosphere of the bride and her family and friends preparing for the big day. Throughout the wedding I’m always looking out for special moments, because I would like to give my couple back a wide range of different photographs, both formal and reportage.
Afterwards I bring together all the photographs in a fantastic album – a treasured keepsake of their day. All couples at Ingliston receive a beautiful crystal encrusted USB stick with all images of their day.
What’s the favourite part of your job?
I feel very fortunate to be doing what I do. I’ve always been a ‘people person’ so absolutely love being part of a very important day which includes family and friends. No wedding is ever the same to me and I am so honoured to witness and participate in them from start to finish. I love looking at all the beautiful clothing and seeing how the couple have chosen to express themselves through their wedding decorations, flowers and themes.
What do you think makes Ingliston different to other west of Scotland wedding venues?
Ingliston is in a unique location in the countryside with modern contemporary facilities and great photograph opportunities both inside and out. It’s a fantastic wedding venue offering the choice of two very different beautifully presented function suites. The glitzy Connemara Suite in the main building or the stylish Salerno Suite. Ingliston is an exceptional venue not just in the west of Scotland but country wide as it offers the full equestrian experience. If you love horses and open country views you will fall in love with Ingliston from arriving at the ceremony in a horse drawn carriage to arranging to have your photographs taken alongside a beautiful horse overlooking the Old Kilpatrick hills.
